Tue, 3 November, 2009Brawn pays tribute to departing Barrichello

Brawn GP team principal Ross Brawn has wished departing driver Rubens Barrichello the best as he continues his F1 career at Williams in 2009. The Brazilian was announced at the Grove-based team on Monday, confirming months of speculation linking him to the team, and ending a four-year partnership with the former Honda outfit.

Rubens was hugely influential in Brawn GP's double championship success this year, and played a pivotal role in team-mate Jenson Button's drivers' championship win. Brawn paid tribute to Barrichello's influence and contribution to the team.

“We are very pleased for Rubens that he will be driving in Formula One once again next year,” began Ross Brawn. “Rubens was with our team for four years and we regard him as a highly experienced and talented driver whose contribution to the team over that period was significant.

“2009 was a very special season for Brawn GP and I am extremely proud of the spirit in which our drivers Rubens and Jenson fought for the Drivers' Championship,” he continued. “Rubens contributed hugely to our success in the Constructors' Championship with two great victories in Valencia and Monza along with numerous podiums and he was a pleasure to work with.

“We wish Rubens the very best with his new team and thank him for his contribution to Brawn GP this year.”

2009 Williams driver Nico Rosberg is expected to join Brawn GP in 2010, to race alongside champion-elect Jenson Button.
