Sat, 14 November, 2009Young driver test at Jerez taking shape

The shape of December's three-day young driver test is beginning to take shape, with many teams having already confirmed the line-ups. With in-season and post-season testing banned from this year, the only chance teams have to run young drivers for evaluation runs is at Jerez on December 1-3.

Championship runner-up Red Bull will test rookie Daniel Ricciardo for the three days, which will be the British F3 champion's first taste of F1 power. Junior team Toro Rosso has elected to run reserve driver Brendon Hartley, with Italian Mirko Bortolotti getting behind the wheel for the second of the three days.

Over at McLaren, test driver Gary Paffett is expected to test for all three days, while Ferrari will give the top three Italian F3 finishers (Daniel Zampieri, Marco Zipoli, Pablo Sánchez) a day in the F60 each. Despite pulling out of Formula One, BMW will honour its agreement to test Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez, as prizes for winning last year's Formula BMW World Finals and European title respectively.

Williams has confirmed 2010 race driver Nico Hülkenberg will test for two days, with the final day going to Andy Soucek as reward for winning the relaunched F2 championship. Renault is the final team to have confirmed a driver for the test, with Formula Renault 3.5 champion Bertrand Baguette confirmed for the French squad.

Brawn and Force India have not yet confirmed their drivers for the test, while it is not yet known if Toyota will be present at the test following their parent company's decision to withdraw from the sport. Should they attend, Kamui Kobayashi will not be eligible to test, having competed in more than the maximum two events allowed to qualify as a young driver.

The first official test of the 2010 season takes place on 1 February.
