Sat, 14 November, 2009Lotus prepares for driver announcement

Formula One newcomers Lotus are expected to reveal one of their drivers for 2010 in the coming days, after team principal Tony Fernandes revealed the team had reached an agreement with an as yet unknown driver for next season. The British-based 1Malaysia F1 Team, running under the iconic Lotus brand name, will become the second new team to confirm one of their drivers, following Bruno Senna's arrival at Campos in October.

Writing on his Twitter account, Fernandes revealed the team had signed its first driver. “One Malaysia Formula One team, aka Lotus, has signed it's first driver,” he wrote.

“Public announcement soon. The dream continues.”

Jarno Trulli has been strongly linked with Lotus since they had their entry confirmed in September, and is widely expected to be the driver at the other end of this announcement. Japanese driver Takuma Sato has also been linked to the team.

Malaysian driver Fairuz Fauzy, who finished second in this year's World Series by Renault, is also reportedly deep in discussions with the team, but only about a reserve driver role for 2010.
