Thu, 26 November, 2009Mercedes to test Conway, Ericsson in Jerez

Britain's Mike Conway and Sweden's Marcus Ericsson will test for the newly renamed Mercedes GP team next week as part of the three-day young driver test in Jerez. The test will be Mercedes' first outing as a full works team since 1955, and represents a chance for the team to test young blood in the year's only post-season test.

26-year-old Conway is a former test driver for the Honda F1 team, a former guise of Mercedes GP, but since winning the British F3 championship in 2006 has failed to feature highly in any championship, winning just a single race. 2007 and 2008 saw him compete in GP2, before securing a seat in the IndyCar Series for 2009.

19-year-old Ericsson by contrast earns his F1 test following three years of successful single-seater racing, including a Formula BMW and Japanese F3 title. He also competed part-time in this year's British F3 series, taking four podium finishes in his six race starts. He is now driving in the GP2 Asia Series with ART.

Conway and Ericsson are scheduled to share the cockpit of the championship-winning BGP001 car on all three days, with Conway driving in the morning and Ericsson in the afternoon.

All teams have now confirmed their driver line-ups for next week's test, taking place between December 1 and 3. McLaren is yet to officially confirm its line-up, but will have test driver Gary Paffett in the car for at least one day.
