Works at the Silverstone circuit in Northampton are nearing completion, with the track's multi-million pound upgrade running on schedule to be finished by the end of the month. As part of the upgrade, the Grand Prix track will boast a new infield section between the Abbey and Booklands corners, with most of the asphalt for the new section of track having already been laid.

Other changes include alterations to the run-off areas at Brooklands to accommodate the higher entry speeds as a result of the long straight from the Arena complex, a tightening of the Club corner and a small change to the final corner before the long hanger straight. The circuit is also getting new conference and hospitality buildings new Stowe corner as part of the upgrade.

“Work on the circuit and venue is on schedule. The team has been working around the clock, through some pretty terrible weather conditions, to make sure the circuit is ready on time,” praised Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited. “The track works at Brooklands and Woodcote are now complete, including the new run-off area for the fast entry into Pits Straight, while the major new development – the new section of circuit from Abbey, up to the Arena Complex and round to the National Straight – is also coming along nicely.

“There is still a considerable amount of work going on at Silverstone, including the new elevated banks and spectator viewing areas, which will continue beyond March. Conference and hospitality buildings are also being built on the new Stowe Complex.”

Silverstone is hosting a bumper year of racing in 2010. Along with having won back the rights to hold the British Grand Prix, the track will also host MotoGP and World Superbike championship rounds during the summer. The track's showcase event, the Formula One British Grand Prix, takes place on July 11.
