HRT's Narain Karthikeyan dropped one place on the final classification of the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday night after getting handed a post-race drive-through penalty by race stewards. As the penalty was applied after the race had finished, the Indian had 20 seconds added to his race time, placing him behind team-mate Pedro de la Rosa whom he had beaten on the road.

Karthikeyan was given the penalty for colliding with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel while the reigning champion was lapping the HRT on lap 47. The collision occurred as the pair entered the back straight and punctured Vettel's left-rear tyre. The resulting pitstop for a new set of tyres dropped the German from 4th to an eventual 11th place, his first non-points scoring finish since 2010.
