Mon, 23 February, 2009Still no 'serious offers' for Honda F1 - Fukui

Outgoing Honda CEO has revealed that his company has not yet received any 'serious offers' to buy its F1 outfit based in Brackley, in spite of recent speculation linking numerous individuals and companies to the team. Takeo Fukui was speaking at a press conference announcing his end of tenure as Honda CEO, with him due to step down in June. Senior Managing Director Takanobu Ito will take his place.

Although Virgin chief Richard Branson has recently been linked with a takeover of Honda F1, comments made by him at the weekend suggest that the rumours are somewhat wide of the mark, while it was revealed at the weekend that the heads of Honda F1 turned down the help of F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone. Nevertheless, the team is yet to receive any credible offers, having been up for sale since the beginning of December.

“There are various offers for the team but we have not see any serious buyer yet,” Fukui is quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency. “We find the sale process difficult.”

Today's revelations, although coming as no major surprise, means the chance of the team making it to the grid for the opening race of the season in Australia grow slimmer and slimmer, with just over a month to go.
