Force India's reserve driver Vitantonio Liuzzi will drive for A1 Team Italy in the upcoming two rounds of the A1 GP championship, marking a return to single-seater racing for the first time in over a year for the 27-year-old. Ever since being let go by Toro Rosso at the end of the 2007 season, Liuzzi has been Force India's test and reserve driver, although he has since raced successfully in the Speedcar series, winning twice in seven races.
Liuzzi's deal with A1 Team Italy will see him drive at the forthcoming two events, next week in Portugal and on 3 May in the United Kingdom. With the season finale taking place during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, it's likely his position at Force India will take precedence.
Along with names such as Sébastien Buemi, Robert Doornbos, Narain Karthikeyan and Nelson Piquet, Liuzzi is the 11th Formula One race driver to race in A1 GP.
