BMW Sauber will bring an updated double decker diffuser to the Nurburgring next weekend, as they look to improve on their dismal start to the 2009 season. Having ended the development of their 2008 challenger early to focus on 2009 and their title aspirations, the BMW Sauber F1.09 has been severly lacking in pace at every race this season, and currently stands eighth in the constructors' championship with eight points. The team's home race, the German Grand Prix, is just over a week around the corner, and the team is remaining bullish on their chances to improve. But having finished 13th and 15th in the British Grand Prix recently, no improvement in pace is in sight. “Going into the German Grand Prix, we cannot be happy with the season so far. After three successful years, this recent period has been the first set-back for our team - and is one we will overcome,” insisted team principal Mario Theissen. “After all, this is the same team in Munich and Hinwil that has delivered continuous improvements since the team was founded.” However, Theissen is adamant that an upturn in performance is in the pipeline. Along with an updated diffuser, other mechanical upgrades will also be on the car next weekend. “We are all absolutely determined to start moving forwards again and I expect us to experience an upturn in form,” he continued. “It is certainly not easy to make up lost ground without the chance to do any testing, but that is what we're aiming to do. We are bringing a series of mechanical improvements to the Eifel mountains, as well as a further developed version of our double-decker diffuser.” Having run KERS at most races at the beginning of the season, BMW Sauber recently announced that they would not be running the energy-recovery devices again this season in order to focus on the aerodynamic development of their car. | |||
